Community ‘Six Seasons and a Movie’ Could Happen with Sony
[Source: The Hollywood Reporter]
One thing you can say about Sony lately is that they keep their promises. The going trend among Community fans was the #SixSeasonsandaMovie slogan/hashtag on social media. Community star Alison Brie was known for posting that hashtag quite a bit on social media outlets and adamantly pushed for it to happen. After the series was sadly cancelled by NBC, Sony Entertainment Television President Zack Van Amburg worked out a deal with Yahoo giving the fans their sixth season via streaming media and now he’s claiming the movie is coming as well.
I don’t know, let’s see how our movie does! Isn’t that our plan? There’s no way we’re not making the movie now! I think once we make the movie, let’s look up and decide how much more Community the world wants. We promised six seasons and a movie, how much more do you want?! [Laughs.] … I’d be lying if I told you that we have not had some very early and preliminary conversations that are very exciting about what a potential movie could be and who might direct it. It’s early but it’s completely in our thought process.
-Zack Van Amburg on ‘Community after season six’
I am a huge fan of Community but I will also admit that the last few seasons have been a bit lackluster. After the loss of cast member Chevy Chase and Donald Glover, Community seemed to struggle to find its footing again. Now with Community Season Six in the works and a movie deal looking promising, we could see the return of Donald Glover and probably much better material not hindered by a poor time slot and a dissipating budget. I know that some of the downfalls can be placed on the friction between Creator Dan Harmon and NBC, but I prefer to play devil’s advocate so that I don’t get my hopes up. Look at what happened with other television series that have outlived their time. I believe that Community has potential, I just hope that their sixth season and possible film revitalizes the program.
