According to Variety.com, Colin Farrell is engaged in talks to star as a leading role in the second season of the highly-acclaimed “True Detective” series.
After months of speculation and hearsay, this news makes Farrell the first actor to be publicly tied to the crime drama.
The move follows suit with their previous season’s template of casting well-known actors who are not unfamiliar with leading roles. The question remains as to who will accompany Ferrell’s character in the series follow-up. Perhaps, given Farrell’s undeniable sex appeal, the spot will be be filled by a female co-star.
Series creator, Nic Pizzolatto, has confirmed that the new season will be set in California and feature at least three lead roles. That will leave the fans of the series salivating as to who will ultimately be joining the hunky Irishman.
“True Detective” has earned multiple Emmy nominations, including lead actor nods for both Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as well as a best drama nomination for the series.
UPDATE: Taylor Kitsch of Disney’s “John Carter, ” X-Men Origins” and NBC’s hit series “Friday Night Lights” is the second big name to be attached to the upcoming season of “True Detective.”
