Christian Bale has been confirmed by Aaron Sorkin as Steve Jobs in Sony’s upcoming biopic!
Originally Sony had their eye on Christian Bale to play Steve Jobs when David Fincher was set to direct the film. Later Leonardo DiCaprio was said to be in the running but took himself out of the running shortly after. Later rumors began to pick back up that Christian Bale was the frontrunner along with Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Bradley Cooper. Until recently everything has been along the lines of speculation but then today Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin confirmed that Bale is Sony’s choice.
“We needed the best actor on the board in a certain age range and that’s Chris Bale,” Sorkin said. “He didn’t have to audition. Well, there was a meeting.”
Now with Christian Bale as the lead and David Fincher being replaced by Danny Boyle as director, we can expect the film to go in a different direction from Fincher’s signature films. I had expected Sony’s film to look very much like “The Social Network” with a dark setting that tells the immersive story of a college dropout who creates an empire. With Danny Boyle (“Slumdog Millionaire”) we may see something that distances itself from “The Social Network” with a more positively enriching setting.
With Christian Bale, I would quote him from his role in “The Dark Knight” and say that Bale “has no limits” as an actor. We can expect a performance from Christian Bale that does Apple’s founder justice unlike some other actors (*cough*…Ashton Kutcher…*cough*). With both Bale and Boyle attached to this film, I think we can finally expect to get a more than well deserved film regarding Apple founder Steve Jobs.
What do you all think of Christian Bale playing Steve Jobs?
