Brie Larson Officially Confirmed As Captain Marvel At SDCC
Brie Larson is Marvel’s Captain Marvel!
What started as speculation has now become fact as Brie Larson has just been confirmed as Captain Marvel at San Diego Comic Con 2016. With Marvel bringing their A-game to counter DC’s Justice League and Wonder Woman coverage, this has been one of the potentially many big announcements to come from Marvel.
With multiple versions of Captain Marvel existing in the comics, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige went on to explain exactly who Brie Larson will portray. As many already expected, it will be the Carol Danvers version.
“Captain Marvel has gone by many names in the comics, has had many people who’ve inhabited that costume and used that power base. I want to make it very clear: This hero’s name is Carol Danvers.”
Feige also explained the origin of this film adaptation of Captain Marvel. As we know, sometimes the comic book origins do not translate 100% into the film adaptations. But from the words of Kevin Feige himself in a previous interview, it sounds like the origins of this character will be rooted mostly from the comic book story.
“[The character will] straddle two worlds. Her origins are very much Earthbound, but her adventures and power base come from the cosmic realm.”
I am personally ecstatic with the choice of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. As previously stated, I think that she has what it takes to portray the character in a way that will please both fans and cinephiles. With an Oscar win to her name and a variety of film credits, I’m excited to see where she’ll take this character.
What are your thoughts now that Brie Larson is officially Captain Marvel?
