‘Scooby-Doo’ Animated Film in the Works
“Scooby-Doo” is on track to be made into an animated film.
It has been reported that Warner Bros. is making a Scooby-Doo animated film with plans to release it to theaters on September 21st 2018. Details like voice cast and what the plot might be have not been revealed. Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, the producing team of the live-action “Scooby-Doo” films from the early 2000’s, are returning to produce but they’ll also be joined by a third producer Allison Abbate of “Fantastic Mr. Fox” fame. Tony Cervone will serve as the director and some fans may be relieved to hear this as he was one of the main creative forces behind shows like “The Looney Tunes Show” and more importantly “Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated.”
This is good news for fans of the recent series which was highly praised as being one of (if not the) best version in the franchise. Why was it so praised? Well for one it had an episode to episode continuity with an overarching mystery, the voice cast was fantastic and allowed to show why most of them are some of the best in the business, it honored the franchise’s history, it had legitimately funny jokes and deep character interactions, and on top of that, it was never afraid to go dark. Minor spoiler alert… multiple characters die but the show still managed to keep it recognizable as a “Scooby-Doo” show.
However, fans of the series would do well to realize that the new movie will probably not follow the show. Still, if the creator puts as much effort and creativity as he did on the show then we could be in for something special. Plus being animated will probably do a lot to help restore many of the older fans turned off by the live-action films. Only time will tell but the future looks bright for this old dog.
