Sony Gives Release Dates for 16 Films through 2019!

Bad-Boys-3

Sony released their dates for 16 upcoming films with a few surprises!

Sony Pictures has announced quite a list of new films to be released. They announced that 16 films were slated for release through 2019 and while some may seem a bit lackluster, others are quite the surprise. Check out the 16 film list below.

  • Money Monster – 4/8/16
  • The Shallows – 6/24/16
  • Ghostbusters – 7/15/16*
  • Patient Zero – 9/2/16
  • The Magnificent Seven – 9/23/16*
  • Underworld 5 – 10/21/16
  • Passengers – 12/21/16
  • Jumanji – 12/25/16
  • The Dark Tower – 1/13/17
  • Resident Evil 6 – 1/27/17
  • Bad Boys 3 – 2/17/17
  • Baby Driver – 3/17/17
  • Barbie – 6/2/17
  • Uncharted – 6/30/17*
  • The Lamb – 12/8/17
  • Bad Boys 4 – 7/3/19

There are a few notable highlights on the list. Ghostbusters was recently shifted around as well as “Uncharted” and “The Magnificent Seven.” I wouldn’t say that this is a cause for concern as Sony has made quite a few shifts following the Sony leaks scandal that occurred earlier last year.

There are a few on this list that made me both pleasantly surprised and confused. Starting with the good, I am pleasantly surprised to see that Martin Lawrence’s campaign for a “Bad Boys 3” generated enough interest to have not one but two sequels to follow “Bad Boys 2.” The “Bad Boys” franchise is a staple in many of the action aficionado film collections so I’m sure many will welcome a third, fourth, and maybe even fifth film in the franchise. As far as “The Dark Tower” goes, many fans have been waiting for this project to get moving and hopefully this date is set in stone. The Stephen King adaptation has had quite a bit of trouble getting started but hopefully it can finally find its footing.

When it comes to the lackluster choices there are two that stand out but will probably still be a win at the box office. “Resident Evil 6” and “Underworld 5” both have a fan base but the franchises have both been on a progressive pace of being stretched thin. The stories have escalated but have also become more inundated with redundancy. They’ll probably be bad but honestly, I’ll probably still watch them haha.

The final film that I feel is a bit questionable and arguably in poor taste is “Jumanji.” The original film with Robin Williams was fun and charismatic due to the late actors signature on screen characteristics. I know they can continue the story with other characters and can probably even afford a nod to Robin Williams but I can’t think of “Jumanji” without Williams on board.

Overall I think that Sony has some exciting projects on the way. We have a lot to look forward to and hopefully even more in the near future.

How do you feel about Sony’s slated list of films?
