Ryan Reynolds hints at Wolverine Cameo in Deadpool Movie
“Great. Stuck in an elevator with five guys on a high-protein diet… Dreams really do come true.” – Wade Wilson
Remember “X-Men Origins: Wolverine?” No? Great! All you need to know is that, in that movie, Ryan Reynolds first took up the mantle of the witty katana wielding and quick healing assassin, Deadpool. The problem being, the movie was a cinematic abomination that failed to please fans and general movie goers alike. No amount of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, the fan favorite of Fox’s X-Men franchise, and Reynold’s witty repartee was able to make that movie watchable.
Fast forward from 2009 to 2015. With the first attempt now a distant cinematic memory, Fox has re-envisioned the foul mouthed Wade Wilson and set his course for theaters come February 12, 2016. In this story we find familiarity as Wilson (Reynold’s) is a mutant and former Special Forces operative who was subjected to experimental surgery leaving the red clad assassin psychologically unhinged, but with accelerated healing.
Are there signs of promise? Hell. Yes. There’s the promo video of Mario Lopez, who wile conducting a faux E News phone interview with Reynolds, gets bloodily brutalized by Deadpool. Then there’s the certainty that the film will be R-rated (a necessity to convey the right tone for our bantering assassin).
So, the question that remains… Will Wade Wilson run into his old buddy Logan? In a recent interview with News.com.au on an unrelated matter, Reynolds was asked about the adamantium-clawed berserkers presence in the upcoming “Deadpool” movie, he said,
God I hope so, that would be really nice. I dunno, we’ll see. It seems like he’s open to it, but it’s gonna be more of a scheduling issue than anything else.
Although ‘Origins’ will fall into cringe worthy territory for a vast majority of comic book and Film fans alike, I think having a quick cameo by Hugh Jackman’s wolverine would be pretty interesting. Despite Jackman having openly expressed his desire to retire the long-standing Wolverine character after the next X-Men film, he never said there wouldn’t be other projects in-between. Being that Wade Wilson is in pursuit of the covert military installation that made him the killer he is today (sound familiar?), It would be a logical move to have him run into Logan, a guy who knows first hand what it’s like to be part of the Weapon X program. At the same time, I’d hope for a brief cameo as to not interfere with the development of Wilson’s character and story… especially if Fox is looking to start a franchise.
“Deadpool” stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Ed Skrein as Ajax, and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and is slated to hit theaters February 12, 2016.
