Wiki Leaks reveals why Andrew Garfield isn’t Spider-Man
Wiki Leaks reveals the real reason why Sony dropped Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man
While many have speculated as to why Andrew Garfield is no longer Spider-Man, it seems as though no one had the full story. While some say it was poor box office performance and others blame Marvel, they couldn’t be further from the truth.
According to the International Business Times, Wiki Leaks revealed that Andrew Garfield snubbed the wrong person. Sony Chief Kaz Hirai was attending a big Sony gala last Summer in Rio de Janeiro where he was giving a presentation on the Spider-Man films. Garfield was supposed to appear at this gala as Hirai announced him as the star of “The Amazing Spider-Man 3.” Based on the leaked Sony emails, it was revealed that Andrew Garfield simply “didnt feel like attending” and was a no show. This of course left a bad taste in Hirai’s mouth and forced him to change the presentation. Below is the original presentation.
Andrew is an actor who has graced the screen in roles in several important Sony Pictures Entertainment films, including The Social Network, in which he played Mark Zuckerberg’s onetime friend and co-founder of Facebook, Eduardo Saverin. The Social Network, to my mind, is the Citizen Kane of the 21st Century, a film that social historians hundreds of years from now will point to as one of the most emblematic of our era.
Another historic movie starring Andrew is The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which continues to weave movie magic in hearts and minds around the world. Together those two films have taken in more than $XXX million at the global box office.I’m proud to say that Andrew will be returning as Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which will be released in May, 2016.
As much as I love Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, I have to say that this was simply not a smart move. It may be tiring and monotonous being a star but “with great power comes great responsibility.” You have to play the game if you are to succeed, we’ve all learned this by now. It’s unfortunate to see Garfield go but from the outside looking in, it sounds like he did this to himself.
