Benedict Cumberbatch is a genius, or at-least his character Alan Turing in the upcoming “Imitation Game” is.
Set during World War II, this biographical thriller tells the story of English mathematician and logician, Alan Turing, who is instrumental in cracking the German Enigma code. The “Sherlock” actor is joined by Keira Knightley (“Pirates of the Caribbean”), Mark Strong (“Tinker Tailor Solider Spy” and “Sherlock Holmes”) and Matthew Goode (“Watchmen”).
The trailer sets the wartime tone, as Turing and his colleagues must frantically race against the clock in a bid to decipher the enigmatic Nazi codes at Britain’s top-secret Government Code and Cypher School before it’s too late. If this riveting trailer is any representation of the movie to come, “Imitation Game” will surely be in the contending for an Oscar nod.
This film has, however, seen its fare share of controversy. With a carousel of changes to the cast and crew, such as Leonardo DiCaprio’s on again off again involvement, some feared the film would never get made.
According to an article on PinkNews, that was not the only avenue in which the film has generated some controversy. Alan Turning’s biographer, Andrew Hodges, has openly criticized the film’s decision to downplay Turing’s homosexuality while instead building up a not so true to life version of his relationship with his colleague and former fiance Joan Clarke, played by Knightley. This is one of many qualms cited by Hodges.

Although the film may have made a few compromises for Hollywood’s sake, overall the biopic seems well acted and just as with it’s real-life controversy, it definitely does not appear to lack drama.
“Imitation Game” is set to hit theaters in the United Sates on 21 November 2014. The film will premier a week earlier in the United Kingdom on 14 November 2014.
