Sony Cancels New Steve Jobs Movie

Update: Universal may be picking up the Steve Jobs biopic. Stay tuned for the official word!
 

Well, that escalated quickly.

Sony has canceled the new Steve Jobs biopic. Just a few weeks ago, we reported a new Steve Jobs biopic was in the works and had a few big names attached.  Aaron Sorkin (“The West Wing,” “Moneyball,” “The Social Network”) was set to write the script, Danny Boyle (‘Slumdog Millionaire’) was sitting in the director’s chair with Christian Bale and Seth Rogan ready to star as Jobs and Steve Wozniak.  Now Sony has decided to scrap the movie.

So what happened?

Two weeks after Bale was confirmed, Film Fad reported he unexpected left the film saying “he was not right for the part.” You could have fooled me; I thought he was perfect. Even amidst the departure Rogen was still set to play the “Woz”.

At the time, many speculated Bale left due to Rogen’s departure but now it seems as if there were other factors at play. If Rogen was the big factor, why not recast him? Or if Sony believed in the project, why not just recast Bale?

Something just does not add up with this one. Aaron Sorkin + Danny Boyle = Box Office Success and Awards.

I blame The Amazing Spiderman 2’s failure for this one. But then again, I blame that movie for everything from hangnails to slow WI-FI.

Hopefully we will learn more in the coming days or perhaps another studio will pick up the film. Why do you think Sony canceled the film?
