‘Jason Bourne’ Sequel Possibilities Leave Little Room For ‘Bourne Legacy’ Continuation
“Jason Bourne” is in and “The Bourne Legacy” is out.
Producer Frank Marshall addressed the state of the Bourne films in a recent interview. With the latest Jason Bourne reuniting Matt Damon with Paul Greengrass, Marshall gave his opinion on a sequel to this film and the state of “The Bourne Legacy.” After speaking with both Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass, Frank Marshall gave a well-informed response as to what we could see next.
I have spoken to them both. Obviously they’re very pleased with how the movie turned out. It’s really about the story, just like on this one, everyone said ‘if you come to us with a good story, we’ll think about it.’
So right now, we’re taking a pause and then we’re going to dive back in and try to find a story. We did leave it wide open at the end of the movie to continue on in Bourne’s world so we’ll see what we can come up with.
There isn’t much of an opinion on Jeremy Renner’s “The Bourne Legacy.” While the reviews for both “Jason Bourne” and “The Bourne Legacy” were comparable, “Jason Bourne” almost doubled “The Bourne Legacy’s” box office numbers. At $475 million compared to $276 million, it’s clear that money talks.
When it comes to Jason Bourne, there’s also a nostalgia factor. “The Bourne Legacy” took a spin on things, expanding the program to many individuals. But while that story could continue the series without Jason Bourne himself, fans seem to be partial to Matt Damon and his iconic role. But as Frank Marshall says, the deciding factor on continuing this franchise will be dependent on a rich story.
