Space Jam 2: Justin Lin in Talks with Lebron James to Star
“Space Jam 2” looks even more likely with Justin Lin currently in talks to direct!
It is being reported that “Fast & Furious” director Justin Lin is currently in talks to direct “Space Jam 2” with Lebron James in the lead role. While rumors and speculation have circulated about this “Space Jam 2” for quite some time, the courting of Lin may be the concrete evidence we need to prove this film will indeed happen.
Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello are said to be serving as screenwriters for the film with Justin Lin throwing in assistance as well. Given this announcement was just made, there isn’t much of a story in place other than Lebron James being involved.
The Fast & Furious 6 and Star Trek Beyond helmer is co-writing, with Dodge and Botello, Warner Bros.’ Space Jam 2. Lin is also looking to direct and produce via his Perfect Storm Entertainment, and sources say he will be thoroughly involved in the creative development of the project.
In addition we do know that the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are repped by William Morris Endeavor, will be appearing in the film as well. This will be the team’s second theatrical appearance with their first being in last year’s hit comedy Trainwreck starring Amy Schumer and Bill Hader.
The first film featured Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan and was surprisingly successful earning $230.4 million worldwide. Jordan teamed with the Looney Tunes to take on a team of aliens who had stolen other famous basketball players’ powers.
With the first film’s success and Lebron James becoming a familiar face outside of basketball with appearances on “Saturday Night Live” and “Trainwreck,” “Space Jam 2” could be another hit. While things are not completely solidified on a release calendar, I do think we’re much closer to certainty than we were before.
