George Miller Reflects On His Failed ‘Justice League Mortals’ Movie

George Miller gives insight into why his “Justice League” film never came to fruition.

While “Dawn of Justice” may be the segway into the DC Cinematic Universe, George Miller could have been the original catalyst for the dawn of the Justice League. Some may consider this venture to be a failed one while others may blame timing, but George Miller has his own thoughts on the once promising “Justice League Mortals.”

In a recent interview, Miller opened up about the real problems surrounding the film and why the project had to be canned. Read what he had to say below.

“I really was attracted to it. But there was a writers strike looming. We had to cast it very quickly, which we did with Warner’s casting people. And we cast it really quickly and we mounted it very quickly. And it depended on a start date and it depended on some basic rebate legislation that had just got through a new Australian government. But it was just too big a decision for them to make in the time. And that fell through and the whole film fell through. We almost got there. And it wasn’t to be. But that happens a lot, where films line up and the stars look like they’re aligning and they didn’t.”

It’s unfortunate how many TV and film projects suffered due to the writer’s strike. While this was only one piece of the puzzle, it seemed as though everything else was essentially a domino effect of problems. I’m sure that George Miller could have created an interesting universe for DC but with all of these troubles, it was probably best that the project fell apart. “Justice League Mortals” could have been a “Green Lantern” based on these factors and that would have been a hard blow to DC.

Do you think “Justice League Mortals” could have survived after these troubles?
