‘Gambit’ Could See Trouble as Director Departs
Director Rupert Wyatt has left “Gambit” shortly before production begins.
In a sudden turn of events, Fox has lost its director for the upcoming Gambit film. Director Rupert Wyatt has cited that he was forced to depart the film after scheduling conflicts that arose from Fox pushing a new start date.
“I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project,” said Wyatt in a statement. “I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film.”
While Rupert Wyatt may still have positive things to say about Gambit, this isn’t the first sign of trouble we’ve seen with the film. Back in July it was reported that Channing Tatum had left the film leading us to speculate about other contenders for the leading role. Days later Channing Tatum dismissed the reports as conjecture based on the miscommunication of differences that he had on set. Things seemed to have been patched up rather quickly, but the reports surrounding Tatum’s dissatisfaction remain a mystery.
The main concern right now is the timeline. Production is supposed to begin in October and as of right now, the film is without a director. Fox is going to have to scramble to find someone to fill the role and hopefully set things on course.
This could mean very bad news for “Gambit” and for Fox if they are unable to get things together. They have already caught a lot of bad press for their management of Fantastic Four. If they do poorly with another Marvel property, this could push fans even further towards Marvel’s side.
Do you think Rupert Wyatt’s departure means serious trouble for “Gambit?”
