’21 Jump Street’ ‘Men in Black’ Crossover Pursue a Director
Well, it looks like a “21 Jump Street/Men In Black” crossover film is happening!
While initially we thought a 21 Jump Street crossover with Men in Black could be a joke, it turns out that Sony is dead serious. Initial reports teased their plans for the film being greenlit, but now it’s being reported that they’re in early discussions with a director for the film.
James Bobin is in early talks to direct the action comedy for Sony. Studio sources say that while no official greenlight has been given, the studio is already eyeing a June production start date. Sony had no comment.
Director James Bobin is said to be in early discussions for the crossover. While the “early discussion” news should always be taken with a grain of salt, the fact that the discussions are happening proves that Sony is currently committed to this project moving forward. And if they were to move forward with James Bobin, it wouldn’t be a bad start given his past work with “The Muppets” and “Flight of the Conchords.”
I’m not exactly sure how they will make this crossover work, but this being unofficially labeled as “23 Jump Street-Men In Black” I’m sure that at least the process will be interesting. But for now all we can do is speculate as they do have a script which is unfortunately under lock and key only to be seen by a select few.
Giving this crossover the benefit of the doubt, would it really be that bad of an idea? Both “Men in Black” and “21 Jump Street” have similar themes on the surface. Two undercover agents that are an unlikely pair working together in environment mixed with comedy and over-the-top moments of action. The only difference between these films are that “Jump Street” has a bit more crude humor and “Men In Black” solely focuses on the sci-fi genre.
We will keep you updated with more news as this project develops further.
