Will this 1st glimpse of the microscopic man of might help Marvel grow a franchise or will it shrink out of sight quicker than you can say ‘Pym Particles?’
After a shaky inception shrouded in secrecy, I am sure many fans such as myself had started to lose faith in the once anticipated “Ant-Man” motion picture. Now with the new teaser trailer finally giving fans a 1st look at the film’s inner workings, the flickering embers of interest can be gently fanned, but with caution.
“One question. Is it too late to change the name?”
Although the trailer gives off a more serious tone than was expected from Peyton Reed (“Yes Man” & “Bring it On”), I am still reluctant to get excited. Given Reed and Rudd’s resumes I would not be entirely surprised if the bulk of the set-pieces were conveniently omitted from the trailer. Keep in mind, the few lines or reactions we get from Paul Rudd’s character all have a comedic vibe. Now having humor doesn’t necessarily make for a bad super-hero flick, we all know and love RDJ’s quipping Tony Stark, but there is a fine line between comedic relief and campy.
I will say that this is definitely a step in the right direction for the “Ant-Man” film property. Giving fans any inside look will keep the interest alive amidst this superhero heavy climate. It would be easy for this film to get lost in the fray and I am sure if Reed and Rudd want to secure the longevity of their involvement (and superhero sized pay-grade), they will put forth their best effort.
