Hot damn can J.J. Abrams keep a secret! The 10 Cloverfield Lane trailer drops ahead of schedule and with a new title in tow.
I always knew that J.J. Abrams had a reputation for being tight lipped, but his latest producer effort “10 Cloverfield Lane” has achieved a whole new level of secrecy. It also happens to be a sibling to Abrams’ 2008 producer gig “Cloverfield.”
Watch the gripping surprise teaser trailer for “10 Colverfield Lane” below.
The clandestine new project by Paramount released it’s trailer ahead of Michael Bay’s “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.” So how’d Abrams and company mange to conceal this buzz-worthy flick for so long? Well, the project was actually formerly known as Valencia and has now officially been changed to “10 Cloverfield Lane,” almsot undoubtably linking the film to the 2008 sneak hit produced by Abrams and directed by Matt Reeves (“Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes”). Directed by Dan Tractenberg, the sequel looks to center on a woman (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) seemingly being held captive in an underground fallout bunker by what appears to be a rabidly paranoid man (John Goodman) after what the bio calls a chemical attack.
In an exclusive statement to Collider J.J. Abrams made an intriguing statement in regard to this films relation to “Cloverfield.”
The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.
Abrams’ cryptic response aside, I have to admit that as of this trailer I am really excited about this film. Not only am I intrigued by the potential tie in to “Cloverfield” but the highly suspenseful tone of the trailer makes me hope for a potentially nail biting post-apocalyptic thriller. John Goodman seems to step outside of his wheelhouse a bit evoking a paranoid, nervous and presumably hostile character. As Winstead’s character races up to the final door, we are all left wondering what lies beyond that door? The ominous tagline on the official poster reads “Monsters Come In Many Forms.” While the trailer initially leads one to believe Goodman may be the monster, his desperate pleas not to open the door leaves us wondering if there is something far worse lurking outside.
“10 Cloverfield Lane” hits theaters March 11, 2016.
